How about when upgrading your system, an info msg appears to news section ?
Or a uri link to news section.

Something like: Before proceed click here for info.

or is it too much trouble ?

Re: pacman suggestion

A neat idea, but still:  If you're running pacman, you have access to the internet.  Problem solved.

Re: pacman suggestion

Adding a new layer in pacman (like pacmatic) isnt something that everyone find etiquette.
Having access to internet isnt either the solution.
I find myself a lot of times using download only option to pacman and actually upgrade my system when i have some quite time (i hibernate a lot).

FS#27653 - Pacman - manual intervention flag

is actually what i am looking for.

If PKGBUILDs are build up with proper msgs or a new flag (for manual intervention) is in place, users would have proper informations before commit an upgrade.
I dont believe in "users are stupid" or "alan broke my system", i believe in the spirit of collaboration in order to achieve the best result in opensource community.

Re: pacman suggestion

Usually if pacman doesn't update cleanly that's a signal you might want to check if an announcement has been made.
Why can't you visit archlinux.org when you're downloading packages?

Re: pacman suggestion

@karol

sorry but i am missing something.

Your suggestion is before using pacman, open archlinux.org ?

Manual intervention isnt something you need to do in every upgrade.
So why not inform people thought pacman ?

something like:

Plz read "this link" before upgrading your system

keep it clean & simple

Re: pacman suggestion

That feature request is not even assigned to anyone, so I suggest using pacmatic for now.
I might help if you provided a patch that implements such functionality in pacman.
