Re: Grub2 and fakeraid

I'm sorry to bump this (old) thread, but I have some problem with grub2 on fakeraid too. When I try to run grub-install (following the wiki), I get this error:
Path `/boot/grub' is not readable by GRUB on boot. Installation is impossible. Aborting.
Anyone had some degree of success with it?
Thanks.

Re: Grub2 and fakeraid

You should have created a new thread instead. Also don't use fakeraid unless you absolutly have to. And if you do, keep /boot out of the raid.

Re: Grub2 and fakeraid

Why should I avoid fakeraid? I dual boot windows and fakeraid makes it much easier. Also, I have a RAID1, if I create a separate /boot partition would the two disks still be mirrored (and thus will I be able to rebuild one from BIOS if one of them fails)?
Oh, and as a sidenote, grub-legacy works just fine without any separate /boot partition.

Re: Grub2 and fakeraid

Because fakeraid is horribly buggy and is not portable at all. (and often it can be slower than sw raid)

Needing to access the raid from windows however is one of the only valid reasons to use fakeraid instead of sw raid.
