[SOLVED] /etc/localtime is a bloody mess

another "migration from rc.conf" support ticket here. I what the proper format to use for /etc/localtime is. I'd just want it set to "Europe/Copenhagen". Looking at /etc/localtime doesn't help:

It even gave me a small system beeb for that print. I am assuming this is all wrong and should be replaced altogether with something else that's actually legible. How should /etc/localtime look?

file /etc/localtime

and you'll see the reason for this output

Last I checked, /etc/localtime is supposed to be a symlink to the appropriate file in /usr/share/zoneinfo/

When I cat mine (linked to America/New_York) I get garbage too. And file recognizes it as "timezone data" so I guess everything's all right.

I don't understand what you expected to see since it's a symlink to /usr/share/zoneinfo/ZONE/COUNTRY.

/etc/localtime: symbolic link to `/usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Copenhagen'
