Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

No problems here so far, even NFS shares are working again in Konqueror which is nice.

Ok the new beta1 will come next days, would be nice some of you would join me and test this release line to bone, that we will get most stable kde 3.5 release in the end.

Thanks tpowa, the works appreciated - excellent stuff wink - currently running the Testing repo anyway (and have been for a while, on and off)  - my KDE setup revolves around kdebase primarily so it's fairly "minimal" (for kde) - just upgraded from kdebase 3.4.2 to 3.5 beta 1 - worked perfectly, no errors at all - only 4 upgraded packages on my box - I've pulled this from my /var/log/pacman.log:

[09/20/05 21:33] starting full system upgrade

[09/20/05 21:38] upgraded kde-common (3.4.2-6 -> 3.4.91-1)
[09/20/05 21:38] upgraded arts (1.4.2-4 -> 1.4.91-1)
[09/20/05 21:39] upgraded kdelibs (3.4.2-5 -> 3.4.91-1)
[09/20/05 21:39] upgraded kdebase (3.4.2-4 -> 3.4.91-1)

Nice smile

Strange, you shouldn't have the the 2 qt version installed. What does
pacman -Q qt
gives you? It should tell you what version of qt is installed.

No, you shouldn't comment out current and extra.  Some packages are upgraded without going in the testing repo.

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

The network settings control panel requests confirmation of the linux distro prior to use.

Arch linux is 'not supported' and it asks to request which distro .. ie fedora, slack, ubuntu, etc - but NO ARCH linux sad

How can I use this great tool?

It wont run for me, but k3b works straight out of the box, so it wasnt really a problem for me.

Ok, I just got into a habit of running the setup first thing.

I will try just running the app.

Thanks for the reply smile

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

Sweiss, I too have occasional artsd crashes.  Also two konqueror crashes so far, although nothing in the last day.

The Arch network settings are a lot like bsd.  I selected that and got everything except the host name ok.  You can specify it in /etc/rc.conf and then use the tool for everyting else.  Here is it's home page:  http://knetworkconf.sourceforge.net/

Probably same issue as gnome admin panel, it will need to be adapted to Arch. http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=15252

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

Hi all,

Check out : http://www.canllaith.org/svn-features/17-08-05.html

Does the last feature "system kioslave" work for any one ? I tried with hal and dbus enabled, doesnt help. It uses cd polling.. anyone have any idea whether i need to install extra software to get it to work ?

Else, great work on kde35 ! Keep it up! smile

Rohan.

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

Hi all,

The above problem -- got it working by adding hal and dbus to daemons list.

Anyway -- a new problem with xchat. I am using gtk-qt-engine .. When i right click in xchat, all the menus are black unless i roll over. I have attached a screenshot. Doesnt happen in firefox.

Does anyone else face the same problem ?

Rohan.

PS : See the screenshot.

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

the network control module is not working because it's only the backend to a tool from gnome called gst, archlinux is not supported by this tool atm that's the reason for not working, if someone has the time to add support to this tool we would really appreciate that.

it says i have qt 3.3.5 and thanks for the tip on not commenting out extra and current

but now i remember why i didnt sync to testing, the change to udev and the new kernel hoses my nvidia driver or module and it wont load x. i have searched and searched with no solution. maybe if i dont upgrade the kernel, how do you tell pacman to skip the kernel ( i know i might be getting off subject, but my goal here is to install and test kde 3.5)

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

jerrym: Add
IgnorePkg = <pkg>
to pacman.conf.  Replace <pkg> with the name of the packages you don't want pacman  to  upgrade.

pholie wrote:

jerrym: i had nvidia working with udev and also with kernel2.6.13archck from community, the problem we both have seems to have the reason in some pkgs from testing.

The problem might be because of gcc4. [community]packages are  compiled against the packages in the current/extra repo.  Both the kernel and its modules must be compiled with the same version of gcc. I don't use testing nor the nvidia pkg so there could be another reason.

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

When I'm trying to launch KOffice applications, I get the following error:

koffice (lib kofficecore): ERROR: Couldn't find the native MimeType in kspread's desktop file. Check your installation !

Is that because of the new KDE?

I am using the 3.5 alpha and kspread is working fine.  I had a missing library problem with kaffeine and reinstalling has fixed it, maybe try that with koffice.

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

thanks for the tips snowman, but if you dont use testing are you using or trying out the kde 3.5 packages that tpowa is making? i thought i read somewhere you have to sync to testing to use them, somewhere earlier in this post i think. or can you install packages from testing while it is commented out in pacman.conf?

i have also been told to not use testing, but to use community to keep the nvidia problem from happening. any thoughts? do you use community?

Re: KDE 3.5 [extra]

jerrym nvidia problem is fixed in new legacy drivers in testing, just add nvidia again to rc.conf modules list.
For 3.5beta you need the testing repo enabled.
