Good general article about Linux with a brief look at its history.
The hook is "Getting your hands dirty with Linux" so the distro focus is on Slackware and Arch.

I wonder how an article that was published yesterday can be that outdated. It still descries aif, no word about signed packages etc.. Makes you wonder if the author really tried to install it. Or is this just a repost of an old article?

It was probably queued for a long time and they finally decided to publish it. August isn't usually a good season for journalism/reporting. Still, first rule of journalism: check your facts before publishing. It might become a disservice this way.

I get the impression it's a cut n paste job from an old article (selecting extra-remote in AIF is not something I'd do as it's too easy to be overwhelmed with packages IMO)

The "Community support in Arch" section mentions the wiki and IRC, but not the forum. Maybe the author had a bad experience here?
How to post. A sincere effort to use modest and proper language and grammar is a sign of respect toward the community.

I remember an old article with a very similar title and concept. I had a déjà vu feeling. It might be very well recycled stuff.

Would have to be queued for a looong time to miss package signing.
