Re-installed arch 0.7 with installCD.
Performed pacman -Syu.....installed 71MB including kernel26-2.6.12.2-1.pkg.tar.gz with initscripts, hotplug, and udev.
Changed fstab for udev nomenclature, modified lilo with Udev boot append and hdx nomenclature. Ran lilo successfully. Rebooted (shpchp showed up). At root prompt performed /etc/hotplug/blacklist and edited shpchp into blacklist.
Rebooted and failed boot following Udev step with : failed to find /dev/hda3.
Since it can't find /dev/hda3 in Udev, and devfs is perhaps still default, it can't use /dev/hda3 for ID. Limbo land....!
Please advise the error of my ways!
There are only three items in hda3 /dev folder!
Prediction...This year will be a very odd year!

The title of this thread is a misnomer - the kernel boots fine, but it looks like your configuration of the devices is off. Did you run migrate-udev?
