Printer recommendations

I was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas on what would be a good printer for linux. It does not have to be anything fancy, just as long as it works. A printer/scanner combo would be nice too if there is one that linux supports well.
Thanks!

Re: Printer recommendations

Epson inkjets and HP laserjets are supposed to be really Linux-friendly. I was quite pleased with my Epson Ctylus C60 until it recently died.  sad

Re: Printer recommendations

I've decided to stop using the inkjet printers, but have had very good results in Linux with my new Brother HL-5150D laser printer.  It's printer only, though.

Re: Printer recommendations

Speaking of Linux friendly, I've got an old HP Deskjet 845C that actually prints better in linux then it does windows. It"ll print in color as well, not bad for a $40.00 printer.

Although, if you go the inkjet route, consider how much refill cartridges go for. Some refill cartridges for certain make and models can be quite expensive. In the long run, laser is the best way to go. They can go for thousands of pages before they need a new toner, if you're willing to fork out the extra money.

Re: Printer recommendations

Yep, deskjets are a good choice, I've recently got a HP DeskJet 5740 and the printouts are decent, works sufficiently well (meaning it prints and the quality isn't bad with the DeskJet 990c driver either)

Re: Printer recommendations

Pick up an old Canon Laser printer, model LBP-660 for next to nothing and get the linux driver off the net. My Canon's working great! lol

Re: Printer recommendations

HP Deskjets are, as said before, very good. Canon BJC-series printers are also very Linux-friendly in my experience.

(Note that Canon i-series USB printers are not Linux friendly. They're good printers, but an incredible pain to set up.)
