Thinkfan basic configuration (thinkpad T420)

I followed (most of) these instructions to get thinkfan working on my machine: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= … ostcount=9

The problem I'm having is that when I run Java programs (specifically Minecraft), my temps spike up to 75-85C. Is there a way to make the fans run better when the temp gets this high?

Normal temps:

4500 rpm is near max fan speed. I believe the max is just short of 5k. I dont think there is much you can do to change the temperature by much.

Would it run cooler if I used intel graphics instead of the NVIDIA card? Would the Nouvau drivers run cooler?
