My vaio P randomly has its screen turned off during usage. If i press any button, it will turn on instantly. I use xfce as the DE. I set the display off parameter in power setting as 10 minutes, but sometime it blanks off withn 10 second of last input. I don't have xscreensaver installed / set, so i don't think it is screen saver problem. Any idea where should i look for information next time it happen ? dmesg doesn't mention anything related.
Edit 18 oct 2012:
I solved this issue by changing to modesetting driver instead of fbdev

“xset” can control screensaving, though I doubt it can set a random delay…

I just tested it today Even if don't press anything, it comes back in 1-2 seconds. I don't think it is screen saver. I suspect something related to graphical stack

What's the output of your "xset -q" ?

I don't see any problem with it. Try disabling screensaver and DPMS and see if your screen still turns off.
xset s 0 0; xset dpms 0 0 0; xset -dpms
If you want to revert your settings back:
xset s 600 600; xset dpms 600 0 900

Doesn't work. Still blanking / turning off at random time. Thanks for the information though

I've got exaclty the same issue on a MSI Wind U115 with gma500_gfx + xfce -
at random times the screen is turning black and after about a second on again.
I'm using only the laptop screen, no external monitor is connected to the vga port
started with drm.debug=0x06
now dmesg shows every 10 seconds:
