D00M Trilogy

So a long while back I purchased "Doom - The Ultimate Doom Trilogy Collector's Edition" Was wondering if I should try to install this in wine, Virtual Box, or look for a port.

Wine HQ had old test results, promising, but old.

Anyone tried running this or any of the the doom games excluding doom 3.

-The Ultimate Doom
-Doom II
-Final Doom

Oh man, I love Doom. No, I'm sorry, I don't have experience running any of those games in Wine or VirtualBox, but there is another option in case you haven't considered it yet:

Install one of the many native fancy-shmancy Linux Doom ports and use the DAT files you bought with them. This will definitely work for Doom 1, and I think you can do it for Doom 2 as well.

Sometimes I play Doom on my old iPod + Rockbox, but the touch wheel can make it tricky to run around. big_smile

Re: D00M Trilogy

i know there is  zdoom, which should be able to play at least the first part.

Yes I tested one doom port on Butnut (ubuntu?) and it seemed to work well. But I ended up ridding myself of Ubuntu. Before I installed it, maybe it was zdoom, I noticed someone said wad files were not functional on that specific doom port. I presume that the wine will be far less functional, but in your experience has a doom port worked quite well in all aspects other than win networking crap?

Re: D00M Trilogy

Vavoom works well - is Linux native.

Currently, a subversion checkout is needed, for the automap to work:

svn co https://vavoom.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/vavoom vavoom

Run with e.g.:  vavoom -opengl -openal -doom
