Re: August 2012 Screenshots

(This is cross-posted from the XFCE thread)

gtk: Aurora
xfce style: axiom
icons: awoken

My new setup. I haven't found a wallpaper I'm happy with... I'm looking for a clean, grey, sci-fiey interior. Then it will be complete and I can die happy. Well, not really. But it will be one goal complete!

The GTK theme is OMG.  This wasn't by design or anything, though.  I like the way my statusbar looks when given the same color as my wallpaper's background, so after picking a wallpaper one day and setting up DWM, I tried out a few new GTK themes for the hell of it.  The hex color value of the wallpaper (#202020) and the theme coincidentally matched up pretty well, and I've since changed my  terminal background to the same color. wink

Re: August 2012 Screenshots

Playing around with Xfe. Top left is Xfe with a changed theme and a few new icons (NuoveXT2); top right is Xfe as it comes by default; beneath Xfe with dark theme is PCManFM with OMG.

I tried to emulate the theme in Xfe to match OMG-Dark.

Re: August 2012 Screenshots

Greetings,

I decided to do something I haven't done in a while. That is, to make my "DE" myself.

For my "DE", I am using pekWM as the WM, AWN as the panel (with dockbarx applet), obmixer for the volume applet, clipIT for the clipboard, kupfer for the desktop search/launch functionality.

LAZY
tZjcydA

BUSY
tZjcyeQ

Programs in action are: Pidgin, Midori, SpaceFM (a very nice file manager!), and DeadBeef (the awesome musicplayer with a weird name).
AWN theme is Dust.
pekWM theme is Orta
gtk theme is Orta.

My computer doesn't have to run a lightweight system by any means, and I was very contempt at running KDE. However, I had forgotten just how nice it can be to run an environment that you yourself piece together. In KDE, my idle cpu usage was around 20 to 25%, to frequently higher than that at close to 50%. I also frequently had in use around 2 GB of memory (in use and using are different things of course).

My "pekDE" setup idles at around 1-2% CPU, and right now with all those apps up and me tying this in Midori, it is using 18% CPU. ram in use is at 664 MB. May be using less than that in reality of course, but yeah. And let me tell you, it flies and doesn't at all feel like it is lacking anything.

Re: August 2012 Screenshots

@josemota I only remember it's something to do with an Ubuntu package, these are installed:
cairo-ubuntu
fontconfig-ubuntu
freetype2-ubuntu
libxft-ubuntu

I followed this a long time ago so it might have changed since:  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Font_Configuration

I use 14-pixel Terminus in twm and mostly 16-pixel Terminus elsewhere.

Re: August 2012 Screenshots

@ghost I liked the sound context menu. Would I be able to use it for instance in XFCE? As of now, clicking on the volume tray icon will open xfce4-mixer and I'd like something more in your terms.

It works quite good.

Everything works except opening the application menu(slingshot) with ALT-F2.

It is the "indicator-sound" applet. I don't know it is possible to integrate indicator-applets into the xfce panel.
