How does one disable the hotplug daemon on startup?

edit /etc/rc.conf, seek and find the DAEMONS line.
Add a ! to a daemon that should not start.
Add an @ to a daemon that should be start in the background.

Examples:
hotplug
!hotplug
@hotplug
