I tried to follow this:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … iki:usrlib
This one:
pacman -U http://pkgbuild.com/~allan/glibc-2.16.0 … pkg.tar.xz
did not work right away, and as it did not seem mandantory I skipped on to:
"Say "y" to skipping the packages, then install them all using (e.g.):
pacman -Sd"
I then unintentionally got only some of the packages, and curl got upgraded but not pacman.
Now running pacman brings this:
pacman: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.16' not found (required by /usr/lib/libcurl.so.4)
I don't seem to have a complete overview of what is going on, so if someone can point out the direction to an elegant rescue to bring pacman back to life I'll be happy.
I'm in the middle of an upgrade so I'm not sure I can reboot just now ;-)
Thanks

What do you mean by "did not work right away"? Did you take any steps to make it work? Have you read the massive thread containing lots of advice?

No, as I indicated it did not seem mandatory

There are several - I now found an answer here:

Thanks for the hint, I'm going to try this

Can I just ask, did you really not update your system at all this year before now?

I did update this particular one - until sometime in may. I have others that are from january. The good thing is that once you get to it, you can do all almost the same way ;-).
I maintain computers for closer and more distant relatives, and it just did not work out to keep them all updated.
Several times such things as USB printers, thumb drives etc. broke during a fairly normal update, requiring me to spend a good amount of time researching the problems, time which I did not really have, so in practice it is not feasible to do it every week, and I am now lagging behind.
