Hello all.

I'm Mark, and I've been using linux (different distro's) for many years now; mostly gentoo though (but I got tired of all the compiling).
I like the simplicity and flexibility of arch.
pacman seems nice, though I might miss some of the features of emerge, but damn it's fast :-)

Well, hello everyone. I've been using Linux for about ten years now, starting with Debian and moving on to Ubuntu and a little Fedora.
I really like the simplicity of Arch, as I never got to the point where I've understood what each and every process on a modern distribution actually do, and why it is started by default.
Now I can pick and choose what components I want or need to install to get my desired configuration, and that helps me learn A LOT about how a Linux system actually works.

I don't think I'll ever go back to a bloated distribution again. And the rolling release concept is absolutely terrific.

I love to have access to the AUR and the Arch way of compiling and installing from source, plus the fantastic pacman system for binary packages.

Way to go!

Finally not a lurker anymore!
I started out using Arch a couple of months ago and I am thrilled. I like the philosophy - "simple stuff that works"! As a novice developer, I feel very lucky to have started out in this environment. People seem very nice here.

I used different distros until now. A lot of debian, ubuntu, gentoo, but I wanted a simple and light rolling release. So, I'm testing Archlinux and until now, I'm quite happy !

Hello all,

I'm an Information Systems student from Indiana. Been around the proverbial Linux block for the past five years with Ubuntu (of course), Fedora, openSUSE, Sabayon, and some other smaller distros. This is my second time with Arch, though the first was Archbang and I had neither the time nor experience to really delve into it. Love Arch so far, I don't think I'll be reinstalling any of the other distros for a very long time. Mainly switched to learn more about the Linux system in general.

Hey Tourniquette. You may, after playing with Arch, want to give Linux From Scratch a read/try. It REALLY pushes the understanding of the Linux core and allows you a massive love for what pacman and the AUR provide.

Can Pacman be used as a package manager for an LFS?

I don't see why not. In fact, pacman would be the best choice (vs. apt-get, rpm, yum, etc...) as it delivers basicly vanilla builds of everything. You just need to make sure that your LFS is simmilar (directory wise) to Arch.

Hi, I'm relatively new to this... but, yes i like Arch linux (more specifically, a fork derived from Arch, though all's the same, yes?).

What drew me in was the wiki, the philosophy and K.I.S.S., but mostly the wiki. (:. An amazing all-in-one reference you guys have!

well i switched to xfce but still had similar problems with user settings not being stored. managed to get it working messing around with my home folder ownership and permissions. Figured if i was going to use arch for the speed benefit i might as well get one of the speedier desktop environments. One of these days I'll build myself a desktop and install arch with gnome shell.

Hi Arch Forums

Just getting used to the Arch way etc. and I'm LOVING it.

Started off using Ubuntu and its variants, became a bit of a ninja around the Ubuntu Desktop and the Ubuntu/Debian servers my company use. Found Arch on the quest to find a nicer, more detailed Linux OS, I came across the beautiful Arch Wiki!

Amazing documentation and I'm learning a lot, looking forward to using and contributing to Arch. Think, I'm going to start looking into different Desktop Environments next!

Can't wait for Btrfs and adopting packages

P.S. Love the branding of Arch Linux!

Hi all,

Finally started getting serious about Linux over the past year, and after noodling with Ubuntu and Xubuntu for some time, then realizing I was always having compilation problems with other software, I decided to try Arch and haven't looked back. It's nice to not get compilation errors anymore. I'm a theoretical chemistry graduate student, so a good CLI-based system is a must, and this one is the best of all worlds.
