GIMP squishes toolbars on each launch

Hi all,

I've switched GIMP into single-window mode as this works better for me, but every time I launch it I get a large space on one side of the window (saying "you can drop dockable dialogs here") and on the opposite side the toolbar is squished up so narrow that the tools go off the bottom of my screen.

Every time I load it I have to resize all the toolbars and move the window between screens until it shows the status bar again after the window was sized so tall.

Is there some way of getting GIMP to remember the toolbar settings? I have tried "save tool settings now" in the preferences but it didn't do anything.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried the "Save Window Positions Now" option? Although it says window, I think it works for the docks/toolbars too.

I hadn't tried it as "save window positions on exit" was ticked, but I tried it now and it made no difference. Any other ideas?

Maybe try deleting your gimp config folder and start fresh?

Thanks for the suggestion. Doing that helped me figure out what the problem is. Since I have all the tools and toolbox on the right-hand side of the screen, on the left all I have is an empty space where I have no tool windows docked. If I resize this empty dock smaller everything is fine, but if I resize it down to zero to get rid of it, the next time I launch GIMP it jumps back to full size and then shrinks the dock on the opposite side of the window by the same amount.

It seems to work if I leave the left-hand dock to be one or two pixels wide, rather than zero pixels wide.
