Keyboard Dell XPS 15z

Hi Guys,

This is my first post, the Arch community seems awesome and am looking forward to joining it. However, I am having significant difficulty trying to get my laptop to function correctly.

I am using a Dell XPS 15z (yes I've read the Arch Wiki post on this laptop) and after installing I cannot get the keyboard to work. I can plug a usb keyboard in and it works fine.

I am using grub as my bootloader and I am almost sure there is a command I am missing in grub.

I have tried editing /boot/grub/grub.cfg under the menuentry and adding acpi=noirq plus the other commands that are listed under the XPS 15z wiki. So my question is, am I doing this right?. I've added these commands within the { } braces in a menu entry in Grub.cfg. Still no joy.

I've also tried the commands:

locale.=en_EN i8042.reset and
i8042.nopnp=1 i8042.dumbkbd=1

as these seemed to help others after a bit of googling.

Has anyone else had this kind of issue or any idea of how I can get my keyboard to work?

Arch linux without a keyboard isn't much fun.

Re: Keyboard Dell XPS 15z

If this adds in any way, I can type keys in the bootloader and get a response until the section "Configuring Virtual Consoles" takes place. No keyboard after that. This happens just after my graphics driver loads, noveou which sometimes fails. Havn't got around to that issue yet.

Re: Keyboard Dell XPS 15z

Don't mind me. I think I have fixed it.

By pressing e in grub and then adding acpi=noirq in the second last line, just before the word quiet - I get my keyboard functionality again. I am sure its just a matter of playing in the grub config until I make this persistent. Cheers anyway

Re: Keyboard Dell XPS 15z

To make changes to Grub2 persistent you have to edit /etc/default/grub and call an updating command (found on wiki for Grub2).
