[SOLVED] Cannot get network to work properly during install

After a partial update on my netbook destroyed my Ubuntu install, I have decided to do the same thing I did to my desktop and put arch linux on my netbook. I am using the new installation media and I have been having a hard time with the network. I am using a wired connection and its using one of the r8.... drivers (don't remember the number). dmesg says it has been loaded and it says that I am getting an IP address. However, there is an issue: There is no connection to the internet. Doing ping google.com returns 'Unknown Host'.

When I run ifconfig after letting dhcp do its thing it says my inet4 address on eth0 is 192.168.0.133 or something like that. I know this is wrong: The router should be giving me an address somewhere along the lines of 10.90.7.96. Also, the gateways are not being set up properly (it says the gateway is 192.168.0.1...the gateway should start with a 66.*.*.* with at least one 10.255.*.*). I have no idea how to fix this...it is almost as though DHCP is talking to some other router through the router than I am supposed to be connecting to. Is there any way to force it to communicate to the correct router? I am getting kind of frustrated and angry at this thing since it since it works just fine with on my desktop which was plugged into the same socket and is running arch.

I can ping 192.168.0.1, but not 8.8.8.8 or google.com.

Also, I don't have control over the router it is plugging in to.

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot get network to work properly during install

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … connection

- Static IP address.
- Subnet mask.
- Gateway's IP address.
- Name servers' (DNS) IP addresses.
- Domain name (unless you're on a local LAN, in which case you can make it up).

Do you know this information?

Do you have more than one network card in your computer?

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot get network to work properly during install

Sorry I was so long in replying...I tried again today and it magically worked. I was prepared with my various pieces of information (static ip, subnet, gateway, and google's dns's), but I guess they were just having network trouble the day I tried because DHCP worked properly and gave me a correct IP address this time around.

Sorry for the fuss...
