Hi everyone,
I read along the web that this is a common issue, but in previous thread people used to solve like this https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=128487
Now with Grub2 there is no menu.lst and /etc/default/grub has no kernel line to edit as written in the post linked above. Anyone knows how to solve?

Moving to Newbie Corner.

I assume since you have a macbook and not a pro, it is an intel card. DSpiders link to kernel mode setting should fix your problem. Theoretically it should be dfaulted to kms in the kernel config, but for some reason I too experienced this, and had to bake the intel module into my intramfs.
BTW, in your last thread you mentioned you did not know where to put command line parameters because you don't have a menu.lst w/ grub2... you even mentioned that you had looked in /etc/default/grub... did you really just not notice where it says "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX"?!?!

ahah no I didn't notice it, sometimes when you face a problem after many others your mind just refuse to simply find the solution Thank you all, worked like a charm!

You should mark it as solved then (by editing the first post).

No I was wrong. It gave me the impression to be fixed, but it got stuck in the exact point where it previously went black.
Well, it's not really stuck, if I blindly login (hope you understand, I'm Italian) and reboot it with "reboot" it reboots, as it is supposed to be, but I don't see what I'm typing, I just see the boot process stuck after udev. The last line is about the failure in loading isight firmware, I didn't install it so it's normal.

So what exactly did you do then? Did you add i915 to the modules in mkinitcpio.conf? Then of course rebuild the initramfs (# mkinitcpio -p linux ). If that then does not work then add i915_modeset=1 to the kernel command line.

actually I only added nomodset to the command line, I'll try what you just wrote

Ok, I deleted nomodeset and added i915 to the modules as you suggested, it now goes black for less then a second before going on and normally boot. So now it's solved!! Thank you!
PS and OT: I now have a problem with awesome WM, just in case you are really bored and accidentally visit the "Applications & Desktop Environments" section ;D

The screen going black for a split second is the i915 module entering KMS... it is totally normal just so you know.
