Re: does systemd consume resources when not used

ps aux | grep <keywords>
top || htop
systemctl
journalctl

seem like a good way to start investigating the case. And... reading a bit more about all the systemd concept. wink

And that makes for a completely different story, I believe. smile I don't have much spare time at the moment to study the case thoroughly, so I just run some pretty common tools to get an overall idea about a computer's behavior after quite a few updates. Thus the context is totally different and oriented towards more or less typical hardware, in which several MBs of RAM more ore less doesn't make a huge difference (even when you consider some lower-end examples). What I almost always try to do, however, is to keep power consumption on a relatively low level and what I've noticed here is that the temperature has dropped circa 2-3 degrees, depending on the machine (with the environmental conditions being kept stable) since transition to systemd. I wouldn't like to draw final and definitive conclusions, but I assume that the difference may be recognizable due to the way systemd handles processes. Anyway, it's something I'd like to scrutinize one day.

Re: does systemd consume resources when not used

Are there really packages which require udev and have a dependency to systemd? The systemd package provides the "udev" dependency so you could easily ignore the systemd package and build your own udev.
