i dont know what it is, but i know it happens on other distros (but i have a free box so i might install something else just to check) but everytime i use konqi to browse the web pages load slower than molases in january. i have tried tweaking the settings in the control center under Internet & Network/Web Browser, but nothing seems to work. other browsers dont have any problems at all

It's a spanking new feature called "Use Opera"
opera --style default
Voila - a browser that uses the same widgets as your desktop that's fast, secure and really cute
To err is human... to really foul up requires the root password.

actually that is what i use, but i wanted to use kde for most everything, kontact, konqueror, etc
im trying to use an all qt desktop and there are a few things in opera that still need worked out
anyway, anyone else on why konqueror is so slow?

Last time I used it, it was about as fast as Deer Park beta 1...
I have heard that Konqueror has trouble with IPv6, and that disabling that in KDE (sorry, I forget how) can speed it up... But I doubt your ISP supports IPv6.

installing prelink helps...

No, it doesn't. Prelink just makes things start faster, and not much faster - the change in startup speed is usually not perceptible, even on a prelink-friendly distro like Gentoo.
Hmmm... Does conqueror have "about:config" like Firefox?

I recall something about setting KDE_NO_IPV6 to no or something.

well, thats a big leap, you dont even know what my isp is. i use earthlink cable service which uses time-warner cable. i dont know if they do support it, but chances are they might.
anyway how would i disable it for konqueror? i know you can disable it by recompiling the kernel, but it can also be turned off for say firefox but konqueror doesnt have an about:config.

If it's actually ipv6 fault, add 'KDE_NO_IPV6=true' to /etc/profile, /etc/profile.d/kde.sh or your .bashrc (whatever suits you).
