XFCE: Middle Mouse Button does not work

First, i tried E17 with the default xorg.conf and the middle mouse button worked out of the box. But in XFCE, the middle mouse button is not recognized. Running

xev

shows that no event is fired when clicking it.

evdev seems to identify my mouse correctly (Razer Deathadder), because in the xorg log file it is listed as input device. I am definitely stuck here, does anybody have an idea?

(I also asked this in XFCE forums)

IIRC, I used the following method:

That doesn't seem right, because it emulates mouse wheels and tracks mouse movements - with a trackball. I have a normal mouse with a real (clickable) scroll wheel. But that click does not fire an event.
