no login screen (kdm) anymore

Hi

the last update somehow messed up my system.
After a small issue with the sound, now I got a big one.
After running alsaconf I rebooted the system.
Now when kdm should start, I see just a black screen and my mousecursor.
I can´t switch to a console..nothing.
I must reset the pc.

Is there a way (grub option) to move the computer just to a console?

thanks
mic

Re: no login screen (kdm) anymore

well I can´t edit anything if I can´t log in.

anyway..I booted with a kanotix cd and removed most of the start daemons.
It was mkvmdev for vmware what causes the trouble,

i applied the newest any-any patch and comipled the modules again.
But  I guess it doesn´t like the new gcc4, cause vmware won´t start.
