Suddenly VLC is exhibiting motion artifacts when playing back video. These are not compression artifacts since the phenomenom is visible during DVD playback, too. The best I can describe it as is ghosting of previous frames, especially visible in dark areas.
Kaffeine playing the same video does not exhibit this behaviour, and so I could use that, but I like vlc.
Any ideas?

In case anyone else has this problem, I solved it by deleting ~/.config/vlc and starting again. The artifacts have gone now.
Not sure what was causing it, but all is good in the world again.
