I was just about to enter a question in the forum, when I found this, and i don't want to hijack the thread, just adding my $.02.
I have the same issue, no sound in games or youtube after a update/reboot. My system is reporting my default sound as Pulseaudio and default card as PulseAudio. not sure what happened.

I decided to do a quick test and downgraded SDL from 1.2.15-3 to 1.2.15-2 and all audio started working again. Apparently some things broke. Also, should have mentioned this in the OP, I'm using ALSA.
Now I'm not sure how to label this thread. It is technically solved, but sdl will still want to update next time I run pacman. Any way around this besides perpetually ignoring sdl?

sweet, unfortunately, a downgrade did not work for me.

Did you reboot or restart ALSA? I'm sure restarting ALSA would work, but I just rebooted the whole computer. I'd also look through the pacman log to see if there's anything that would effect audio, that's how I came upon SDL.
