virtualbox-guest-additions 4.2.0-2

Hello to the Forum,

I'm running Archlinux on Virtualbox on Windows7x64 Host, but the latest virtualbox-guest-additions 4.2.0-2 are not working well.

[petros@archlinux ~]$ uname -a
Linux archlinux 3.5.4-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Sep 15 13:04:04 UTC 2012 i686 GNU/Linux
[petros@archlinux ~]$ glxinfo | grep OpenGL
OpenGL Warning: Failed to connect to host. Make sure 3D acceleration is enabled for this VM.
OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 0x301)
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 8.0.4
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20
OpenGL extensions:

Never had any issues before, how can I fix it?
Thanks in advance.

PS: 3D acceleration is enabled in VirtualBox.

Re: virtualbox-guest-additions 4.2.0-2

I think as of today it was changed to be in favor of virtualbox-iso-additions.

Re: virtualbox-guest-additions 4.2.0-2

Well, thanks for the answer, I've installed the virtualbox guest additions from the devices menu and now I have

[petros@archlinux ~]$ glxinfo | grep OpenGL
OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 0x301)
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 8.0.4
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20
OpenGL extensions:

but shouldn't that be like in my fedora or my previous archlinux box?

[petros@fedora ~]$ glxinfo | grep OpenGL
OpenGL vendor string: Humper
OpenGL renderer string: Chromium
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Chromium 1.9
OpenGL shading language version string: 3.30
OpenGL extensions:

The VMware driver isn't working ok.....

Re: virtualbox-guest-additions 4.2.0-2

Also suffered numerous issues after updating to the virtualbox-guest packages.

Compared the current version to 4.1.22 and noticed that virtualbox-guest-modules is missing the following file:

/lib/udev/rules.d/60-vboxguest.rules

Containing the following two lines:

ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="vboxguest", SUBSYSTEM=="misc", OWNER="root", MODE="0600"
ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="vboxuser", SUBSYSTEM=="misc", OWNER="root", MODE="0666"

Manually creating the file after installing virtualbox-guest-modules and virtualbox-guest-additions solved my issues.

I'll try and report it as a bug if you can verify that this workaround also works in your system.

Re: virtualbox-guest-additions 4.2.0-2

Yes, the udev rule fixed my system smile, well done.

PS : I also did the following which I tested on a CHAKRA VM, where I was getting the Gallium Driver too

mv /usr/lib/dri /usr/lib/dri.bak
ln -s /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri /usr/lib

After updated vbox additions, I could not copy & paste between guest and host, but this fixed it. Thank you and please report bug.
