EDIT: add logo.nologo, xforcevesa to grub boot parameter not work
EDIT2: I uninstall xf86-video-intel and rerun xorg, no work, having only vesa intalled not work
but the tty is showed at correct resolution

If you ask I only need run vbox, zsnes, a web-browser and libreoffice ans usb-modems and no more

EDIT·: Ubuntu video work but touchpad no exept in install mode, I try to find if any module are blacklisted or any, probably I can reproduce the same black/whitelisting the video work

Re: [SOLVED]New (my fist) laptop; Xorg issue, not detect screen, gma500

I had a similar issue when I was installing Mint on the Netbook of my sister.
Problem was that the wrong driver was onfigured in xorg.conf by default.

Did you checked this?
Try to run Xorg -configure as root.

From the Xorg manpage:
     -configure
When this option is specified, the Xorg server loads all video driver modules, probes for available hardware, and writes out an initial xorg.conf(5) file based  on  what  was  detected.
This  option  currently has some problems on some platforms, but in most cases it is a good way to bootstrap the configuration process.  This option is only available when the server is
               run as root (i.e, with real-uid 0).

Looking at your posted log shows that Xorg is not configured properly.

Same here, "no screens found", completely new install after purchasing an SSD. On boot i get only a terminal, but after restarting the KDM service xorg works. I tried downgrading to intel 2.20.7 but to no avail.

Using intel HD3000.

Re: [SOLVED]New (my fist) laptop; Xorg issue, not detect screen, gma500

N2100 processor means CedarView, which means PowerVR graphics (GMA3600 or 3650). Good luck getting that to work. Seriously smile

@blackst0rm: Xorg -configure is outdated, it shouldn't be used. If it actually helps someone, I'll be very very surprised.

@Anaki: HD3000 doesn't require any configuration whatsoever. And considering Jristz has PowerVR graphics, your problem is unrelated. You should open a new thread and post relevant logs. But, like I said, no configuration whatsoever is needed for HD3000.

Your right but it still provides a good starting point to an correct xorg configuration. I never had any issues with it smile

I am not sure. As I said before I had a similiar issue with intel graphics. Solution was to explicly set the driver in xorg.conf to intel.
Did you check that it is not set to vesa drivers?

A correct configuration is no configuration. And if it is needed (for example, the catalyst/fglrx driver needs it), all you need is a Device section, not the mess Xorg -configure creates. "Xorg -configure" and "correct" is not something I'd use in the same sentence.

Thank you for pointing that out seems I missed something I'll read further into this. wink

Re: [SOLVED]New (my fist) laptop; Xorg issue, not detect screen, gma500

Ok my researches at now during al night was next:
is a gma500_gfx in arch, add them or not to the mkinitcpio no have efect and a sudo rmmod gma500_gfx show in both cases a una ble to remove module
Ubuntu use a Hi patchet cedarview driver in they kernel but work perfect, obvious this mean that I cannot clone/duplicate the black/whitelist in arch, probably clone and build both the kernel and drivers can work...but I not sure really if a good idea

Re: [SOLVED]New (my fist) laptop; Xorg issue, not detect screen, gma500

The gma500_gfx driver is modesetting only. To use it with X, you use either xf86-video-modesetting or xf86-video-fbdev. This will give you X in the correct resolution, but no acceleration whatsoever.

Intel did release a CedarView driver, you could try getting that to work. The first step in doing that is blacklisting gma500_gfx. Then installing all the necessary CedarView stuff. But, like I said, good luck smile.

Re: [SOLVED]New (my fist) laptop; Xorg issue, not detect screen, gma500

Thanks Gusar, Those was so useful, I going to try first make run X (I have another machine using vesa, no 3D is not a problem for me) and then try to obtain the cedarview and make all the needed
And is dkms compiled, like virtualbox modules...this give me a litle of hope, now try to find the source

EDIT: Goods, I found and are dkms-compiled and are 3 from 201207017 from ubuntu (I not found them in others distros repos) probably are usefull, bad are only i686 and not spect x86_64 support in near future

EDIT2: Debian installer grafical work perfect, I read that they use fvde, proably my best option is fbdev
EDIT3: Fake hope is fake, debian work, but the resolution is 800x600 and I know thah is 1024x600 (or 700 not sure) the real res

Re: [SOLVED]New (my fist) laptop; Xorg issue, not detect screen, gma500

Or fbdev work, but at 800x600, now I have X working but not resolution, probably xrandr wikia article make me have any idea
for now is partially solved, I try to reach my native res and continue post here more experiments and rsults

first install ONLY fbdev, any other video-driver cause not startx or freeze
and startx blacklisting gma500 make a HARD frozen system unable to REISUB

Re: [SOLVED]New (my fist) laptop; Xorg issue, not detect screen, gma500

xf86-video-fbdev should give you native resolution provided the gma500_gfx module is loaded properly.

xrandr doesn't work with fbdev, that's the difference between it and xf86-video-modesetting.

Re: [SOLVED]New (my fist) laptop; Xorg issue, not detect screen, gma500

ok but xf86-vodeo-fbdev not give the propper native res, for exampple Meego (the old os in this one), ubuntu and they variant (installing the jockey cedarview drivers) give me a 1024x600 (changeable for 800x600, 640x480) but fbdev only give me a 800x600 and unable to change it but how I say fixed, I have X work, but not report the native res (not solved)

any crazy experiment that givem me any result is post here

Re: [SOLVED]New (my fist) laptop; Xorg issue, not detect screen, gma500

I also have a netbook with the cedarview graphics. Unfortunately, I actually swapped the ssd from my old laptop into this new one. All I ended up doing was installing the fbdev driver, and it works with full resolution.

I also used vesa for a little while, it was full resolution but blurry and slow.

So it is possible... somehow... good luck.

Now I need to get multiple monitors working, and this will be an actually useful machine...

Re: [SOLVED]New (my fist) laptop; Xorg issue, not detect screen, gma500

For the external monitor:
Connect an them boot, the X start on the external monitor
or if you have reflects, connect at same time that gma500 is loaded and if you make at correct time, the screen has ben doubled in both the laptom and the external monitor

Re: [SOLVED]New (my fist) laptop; Xorg issue, not detect screen, gma500

Last report:
xf86-video-modesetting from AUR plus a 90-monitor rule in xorg.conf.d that force utilisation of Driver "Modesetting" fix all, now I have native res (1024x600....yes really IS the native) and external monitor work that I config throw xrandr

now watch some ponies in youtube, thanks and by

PD:I not test the sdcard-reader I not have one...
