[Solved] Shutdown and hibernate just ...

reboot my Asus K55N. I tried every way of shutdown in the internet and no luck. I also move to systemd which improve my boot time so fu** fast but the only way to shutdown the laptop is pressing the power button in the grub screen. sad Also i saw in one of the logs a error in the kernel with the cpu but i don't think that issue has anything to do with my problem.

Any idea?

PD. Please don't make me go to windows again.

Re: [Solved] Shutdown and hibernate just ...

Well, I was going to say that this happened to me as well, but it happened shortly *after* I moved to systemd.  And then it magically fixed itself on the last systemd update.  I honestly have no idea though if it truly was systemd or not.

You know, rather than simply letting it reboot and shutting down from the grub menu, For a week and a half or so, I would use

# systemctl halt

and then use the power button from there.

You know, now that I think about it though, I am fairly certain that it was only shutdown/poweroff that would do it.  I remember thinking it was rather peculiar that hibernate still "shutdown" the computer.

Re: [Solved] Shutdown and hibernate just ...

Thank you for the hint, it is better than the grub power down but I'm going to do the git version of systemd to see how it goes.  But to my knowledge since I install arch the power system it hasn't been working well at all but since i love arch so much I waiting to resolve it some how. I'll let you know!!!

Re: [Solved] Shutdown and hibernate just ...

Boot into the arch live media (installer) and see if it shuts down properly from there.  If that doesn't work, try another distro live media.  This way, at least you can get an idea if it is an issue with your machine or with your installation, and also if it is specific to arch.  If it happens with everything you try, I would say that it is probably your machine.

Re: [Solved] Shutdown and hibernate just ...

To make the arch installation it was a nightmare because never work gui, this machine has a EFI bios and to make a distro to install it was a challange. The only problem as a laptop that the lt never hibernate and it's sad for the motherboard, but since if I have to stay away for a long time i just turn it off. I do have windows but linux run so well that i don't want windows rether for programming purpose. I'll keep finding a solution but for now the halt thing was enough for now. Thanks a lot.

Re: [Solved] Shutdown and hibernate just ...

Update I did update the bios and move the sata controller in the bios from IDE to ahci since I thought I better chances of install arch now I'm able to shutdown but the hibernate thinks still to be work know I believe that maybe it's a systemd issue.

Re: [Solved] Shutdown and hibernate just ...

For hibernation, see here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pm … nd2disk.29 .  It is the page for pm-utils, but it gives instructions for setting up hibernation that is generic.  In Linux, it is very unlikely that hibernation will just work out of the box.  You nearly always need to do some setting up.
