Ok, so I found this thread yesterday and decided to give Fvwm another try. Here's what I got so far:
Full sizeI don't like the colors and window decorations much and will change that soon (if I don't switch back to Openbox ). The Pager is embedded in FvwmButtons so that I can slide it out of the screen and back in. One thing I'm missing is a nice but simple system monitor to watch Network- and CPU-activity, maybe someone has any recommendations? I used conky for that with Openbox but would like to try out something new...
I liked them a lot
Do you still have them? Can you send me a copy of the pixmaps?
To err is human... to really foul up requires the root password.

They are part from the official fvwm-themes project, which is located here
A package of fvwm-themes is also in AUR. You can extract the pixmaps from it if smoon does not have them any more

I wish someone had told me before :? I created this one on my own and it was a pain in the a** since I'm not that talented in things that have to do with graphics. Anyway, I uploaded the images: http://nooms.de/up/foobar-windeco.tar.bz2
*Edit*
As for the monitoring: Thanks for the suggestions but I tried xosview a few times and don't really liked it, the desklets are a little bit too huge for my taste and most dockapps are not very beatiful either... But even though I'll have a closer look at this possibilities anyway.

I'll be writing another set of system monitor desklets probably by the end of next week. SystemMonitor does it's job nicely but I'm just going to write another set with a different look approach to give people some choice. Just a heads up if you're still looking then

I can't seem to use anyone's config... FVWM spits errors that it can't find the images. Any ideas?

sure, most likely the images used in the configs (icons, pixmaps etc) are not distributed with the tarball. You should either edit the configs and add your own icons, pixmaps, etc, or use a config of someone who has added also the icons in the tarball.
If you can't find one, I will upload mine tomorrow including icons (almost finished rewriting some of myh configs).
I will post it here where they are located

First u should install the latest fvwm from aur.
Than look at my screenshots (Click the pic and u´ll see my gallery)
You can download my configs from here: http://cip.physik.uni-wuerzburg.de/~lor … vwm/config
Only fvwm_legout_sep.tar.bz2 is without icons.

I will start working on the ArchWD user packages, but first upgrade the default packages. Found few new codes to improve the window and mouse settings, but still not satisfied with the focus window.
How to maximize/drop/kill a non-focused window without focusing?
How to run a key command e.g "Key F4 R A Exec /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm", when there is a focused window?

I'll send you mine today, totally forgotten
How to maximize/drop/kill a non-focused window without focusing?
You use a clicktofocus policy?
Do you mind maximizing/drop/klill a non-focused window using fvwmbuttons?
[edit]
If you want I can post you some code for it (using fvwmbuttons)

You mean that the key command should not work if a particular window is un-focused? That will be quite hard, have to think about that

Window focus settings:

As default, I don't mind what type of setting as long as it works. More simple, the better.

Yes. Would like to keep the deafult key commands ready at any time. Currently new windows are not automatically being focused because of this.

I have an fvwm-cvs pkg in my repo if you want the latest and greatest - of course it is built with transparent menu support

In middle of this month (18th) I am planning to build user configuration packages for ArchWD. The purpose is to have set of samples of different packages (pager, menu, decoration, wallpaper, etc.) with nice styles and settings. At the same time test the practical side of downloading, upgrading and the system in general.
Please, send me your FVWM configs (tarball) as they are at the moment. I will split them into daemons, layouts and modules, and assign a package name e.g. legoutmenu-0.1.wm.tar.gz. The owner can then maintain and upgrade if liked.

Sorry for taking so long. The solution to your question:
Let's say we have a fvwmiconman swallowed in a fvwmbuttons, with a style similar to
Style FvwmBox NoTitle, !StaysOnTop, Sticky, WindowListSkip,
CirculateSkipIcon, CirculateSkip, HandleWidth 0,
BorderWidth 0, NoHandles
And a configuration of fvwmiconman similar to
DestroyModuleConfig FvwmIconMan: *
*FvwmIconMan: ManagerGeometry 1x1
*FvwmIconMan: ButtonGeometry 116x26
*FvwmIconMan: FocusAndSelectButton down
*FvwmIconMan: FocusButton down
*FvwmIconMan: IconButton down
*FvwmIconMan: PlainButton down
*FvwmIconMan: SelectButton down
# disable default binding of "Iconify"
*FvwmIconMan: Action Mouse 0 N sendcommand Nop
# redefine buttons 1, 2 and 3.
*FvwmIconMan: Action Mouse 2 N sendcommand Thumbnail
*FvwmIconMan: Action Mouse 1 N sendcommand "Iconify off", sendcommand RaiseLower, sendcommand FlipFocus
*FvwmIconMan: Action Mouse 3 N sendcommand "Popup MenuWindowOps Rectangle +$left+$top 0 +34m"
*FvwmIconMan: Colorset 99
*FvwmIconMan: ReliefThickness 1
*FvwmIconMan: Font "xft:Bitstream Vera Sans Mono:style=Roman:size=6"
*FvwmIconMan: FocusAndSelectColorset 98
*FvwmIconMan: FocusColorset 98
*FvwmIconMan: Resolution Page
*FvwmIconMan: DrawIcons Always
*FvwmIconMan: FollowFocus True
*FvwmIconMan: UseWinList True
*FvwmIconMan: ShowOnlyIcons False
*FvwmIconMan: Title ""
*FvwmIconMan: Sort id
Important in the above code is the Action Mouse 3 sendcommand. This will popup a menu, called MenuWindowOps.
Now let's create some sort of menu to your liking, similar to
DestroyMenu MenuWindowOps
AddToMenu MenuWindowOps
+ "&Maximize" Maximize
+ "&Iconify" Iconify
+ "&Sticky" Pick Stick
+ "&Destroy" Destroy
The above code (hope I did not forget anything, if so, please tell me) will let you mazimize/sticky/.. a non-focuses window without focussing from out fvwmiconman. I don't think it is possible to prefend the current focussed window to get unfocussed, so after the operaton all windows are unfocussed, and layers stay as before operation.
For the second question (key-bindings) I do not currently know, I'll think about it.

Thanks pressh.
Doesn't seem there is a straight answer. Maybe something simplier comes up later.

I was planning to make packages from different users who sent me their configure, but I ended instead of learning more about different possibilities and copied bit and pieces from different configs. My thanks to you.

If you can tell me what you exactly want I can most likely give you a straight answer of how to implement it. Did not quite understand what you were looking for exactly. But it should be very simple. So please tell me how you want it (bindings, fvwmiconman, etc) and if it should be added as a module, etc.
If you can tell me by this weekend, I'll have you the answer next week (kinda bussy in the weekend)

I am still too "new" in FVWM to know exactly what does what, to give a straight question. But it should be easy to find when all files/packages are separated.
This deals with focused and unfocused:
http://user-contributions.org/wikis/use … wFocus.sys
This makes the mouse to behave in different manner above a window:
http://user-contributions.org/wikis/use … -Functions
What function allows the mouse to know what is focused and what unfocused? Is it this:
http://user-contributions.org/wikis/use … ault-decor
My question is, how to get the mouse to max/drop/kill an unfocused window?
More files:
http://user-contributions.org/wikis/use … php/ArchWD
EDIT
If its not possible to max/drop/kill an unfocused window, then how to focus and kill with one mouse click, instead of two clicks? .... same behavior as in Fluxbox.

It took an install of archwd to become clear, but at least there is a simple solution
Just add to your focuspolicy:
Style * ClickToFocus
and everything runs fine
Offline
Just having archwd installed, the problem of the keybindings is frustrating me already
So did solve that problem too,
please change your key bindings to
Key F2 A A Restart
Key F3 A A $[HOME]/.fvwm/archwd-user/sbin/menu.sh
Key F4 A A Exec /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm
Key F7 A A Module FvwmConsole -terminal xterm -g 40x10
Key F10 A A Exit
The syntax is for: key keyname context modifier command
So changing the R to A will let the keybindings work all time, not only when no window is focused (as with R).
The seccond A means that all modifiers (even none) can be used for the binding (so f4, alt-f4, ctrl-f4, shift-f4 all have the same meaning). If you want the key only to work without modifier, you should change this A into N.
I think that this is the behavior you want, so for the key bindings to work without modifier, you should use the following code:
Key F2 A N Restart
Key F3 A N $[HOME]/.fvwm/archwd-user/sbin/menu.sh
Key F4 A N Exec /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm
Key F7 A N Module FvwmConsole -terminal xterm -g 40x10
Key F10 A N Exit
However, this could interfere applications from using the key bindings, so perhaps you could take key-bindings wich other programs do not use?
So using maybe alt, or 'windows key' would be an alternative to use as modifier.

Thanks, it makes a big difference in moving and max/kill windows, its smooth.
I am glad you solved the keybindings also. Before I update the mousekeywin package (deals with focus and keys), how to replace F4 with Alt-F4 (Key F4 A N Exec /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm).
Markku
Offline
The alt-key is the meta modifier (denoted by M). So to have the key binding alt-f4 for the above function, this becomes
Key F4 A M Exec /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm

Thanks again.
mousekeywin and pactk packages are updated. Run in terminal "pactk -up" and then update all files in ~/conf.d with the files extention .new, and restart.
If any other changes or suggestions, please let me know.

Forgot to mentioned, all default keybindings are changed to "Alt-<key>" e.g. Alt-F2 to restart.
From my side, now when the focus and key issue was solved, I switched from Fluxbox to ArchWD. What I really like with the FVWM compared to Fluxbox, rendering is much better. In my LCD monitor the fonts and colors are very clear.
About the ArchWD, the PacTK needs some improvement.
