[Solved]nvidia > 295.53-1 hangs x86_64 system running KDE

Hi,

updating the nvidia drivers after this release (295.53-1) results in periodic total system hangs running KDE.  No CTRL-ALT-F1, no system logs.  Rolling back the driver sorts the problem.  Any ideas please, extra info required?

Edit: no obvious task being carried out on hanging

Edit 2: Nvidia GeForce 9600 GSO, proprietary drivers

check your Xorg.0.log for errors.

There is nothing to show in the log files including Xorg.0.log

I don't know if it is related, but I had a couple of freezes with latest NVidia driver (GT218 [GeForce 210]) on x86_64 as of a few days ago. Had to ssh from another computer to reboot. Removed nvidia and reinstalled nouveau to check if it will be more stable. I don't use any 3D stuff.

KDE 4.9.2 + Linux 3.6.0 + nvidia 304.51-2 with a GeForce 9600M GS and everything is working fine since yesterday.

But random total system hangs since years ago in Linux and Windows and i think nvidia drivers are the cause. The screen shows sometimes pink dots when system hangs.

ok, just for clarification, this was a failing motherboard problem
