bash alsamixer command not found (despite that alsa-tools is installed

Hi can anybody tell me why I cant start alsamixer or alsactl. I installed alsa-tools. Also tryed to run it as root or regular user.
DE is fluxbox.

The above post has the solution. But I'd like to encourage you to break this habit. If something fails and you don't know why, the last thing to do is to run as root. This is like a peice not fitting in a delicate assembly, so you try forcing it in with a sledge hammer. Root privileges should be reserved for when you know exactly what you are doing and root access is needed. When you are unsure root access will not make things more likely to work, only more catastropic when they don't.

PS, yes, pkgfile gives you the same answer - you still have to actually install that package.

SORRY...i installed alsa-tools but was thinking that it is alsa-utils....too much headache with arch linux for 2 days of problematic installations....

I suggested reading `man pacman`. Also read at least the first line of `man pkgfile` and http://slash7.com/2006/12/22/vampires/

This has nothing to do with "old way" or "new way". As I posted in another thread of yours you need to stop trying to blame arch or pacman or anyone else for your blatant PEBKACs. Look at the commands you issued. You have not installed the relevant package.

EDIT: this post may seem abrupt given the content it is reponding to has been removed. But the point remains valid.

C'mon, you can't be serious. All your posts recently have been mistakes on your part, including this one. Please mark your threads as "Solved" and be thankful that others took their free time to investigate these non-issues. Not everyone is as nice and patient as Trilby.
