Dmesg lists many snd_usb_audio: Unknown symbol __compound_literal.xxx
Does this mean an error in the kernel install?
Can I force a reinstall or is there another corrective action?
Prediction...This year will be a very odd year!

As you seem to be using a 2.6.13 kernel the alsadriver package is not necessary. The alsadriver package provides the alsa drivers for the 2.4 series kernel only.
BTW, since the latest update my system suffers from the same bug and I already filed a bug report :-(

I had to try the alsa fixes just in case I could learn from them.
Thanks for the bug info...

The alsaconf entry is fine and refers to the internal cmipci sound card, part of the mobo.
There is no reference to the usb device connection for snd-usb-audio which is reported as not present in the /lib/modules/kernel/usb (2.6.13.2-ARCH).
I am interested in the usb audio interface, not the pci audio.
Kde provides a usb pcm mixer option when the system is installed correctly.
Another user has posted a bug concerning this issue, #3900. Edit: #3300
Prior to my making several changes in rc.conf and daemons, running alsaconf reported .....no such command.
I have another HDD with a 2.6.13.2 Kernel installed with a different build in PKGBUILD which has snd-usb-audio operating correctly.
This kernel install which is running herewith fails snd-usb-audio and was installed via ABS kernel26 PKGBUILD with no custom installs.
Again, usb devices utilize snd-usb-audio, and all audio feeds through usb cable to the device which provides stereo sound port (also an infrared port)
which feeds either headphones or a stereo amp for speakers (or both).
The boot message reports that the snd-usb-audio cannot be loaded.
I await the bug resolution.

Pacman -Syu this day provided the gcc and kernel upgrade to insert the snd-usb-audio.
It worked right off !!
Thanks to the developer for this great upgrade!!
