DisplayPort audio on X220 not working.

I found this thread but it doesn't help.

The video is working but I can't send audio over the DisplayPort. It's working fine in Windows 7. Under System Settings > Sound, there is only the analog onboard audio card listed.

According to this link, recent kernels should list DisplayPort audio as a separate device. However:

╭─ting@noa ~ ‹python-2.7.3›
╰─➤ uname -a
Linux noa 3.5.3-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Aug 26 09:14:51 CEST 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux
╭─ting@noa ~ ‹python-2.7.3›
╰─➤ ls /proc/asound
card0/ card29/ cards devices hwdep modules oss/ PCH@ pcm seq/ ThinkPadEC@ timers version

Re: DisplayPort audio on X220 not working.

Not sure about your individual problem but i had a similar problem with my HDMI output.

If you read the wiki you would know, that HDMI sound output is DISABLED by kernel default to avoid possible bugs.

The workaround for this, since there is no official support, is to edit the kernel line in grub, and append "" or "radeon.sound=1" (cant remember which one was the one).

you will then, on boot, see in the log "disabling default hdmi disable" entry.

you will then be able to test the sound with aplay.

then go configure with the regular alsa config.

Lenovo ThinkPad X230. i5-3360m. Memory: 8GB 1666mhz. Crucial m8 SSD 128GB(root/home/boot) and 16GB mSATA (Swap/var). Running ArchLinux@KDE

Re: DisplayPort audio on X220 not working.

Not sure if this is what you mean but on a T410 running Gnome I had the same problem of the sound not being transmitted through a Display Port adaptor to a HDMI cable and out of my TV speakers.

To solve the problem I found that if I go to the audio settings then hardware tab I could choose a HDMI profile. Not all of them worked but one of them did and gave me both video and audio output via my Display Port.
