ctrl and fn keyboard shortcuts don't work after update

After I updated today (list of updated packages below), all gnome keyboard shortcuts that use the ctrl or fn key stopped working completely. What could cause this? I've never had any problems with these keys in linux before and they all work out of the box, today is the first time I've had any issue.

Re: ctrl and fn keyboard shortcuts don't work after update

Downgrading the following packages solved it for me:

xf86-input-evdev (2.7.3-2 -> 2.7.3-1)
xf86-video-intel (2.20.9-2 -> 2.20.9-1)
xorg-server-common (1.13.0-2 -> 1.12.4-1)
xorg-server (1.13.0-2 -> 1.12.4-1)

Re: ctrl and fn keyboard shortcuts don't work after update

there where some bugs reported, i.e. https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/31910. This bug is now closed with reason for closing:  Won't fix. I wanted to comment my observation, that i edited keybindings for launching terminal and emacs that lead to entries in the dconf-database as <primary><alt>t i.e. for terminal, older bindings where named <ctrl><alt>whatever in my dconf database.

Re: ctrl and fn keyboard shortcuts don't work after update

Can you be more specific as to how to alter those dconf entries? I have searched from them unsucessfully. I found some default entries, but nothing for my own shortcuts. I use cinnamon btw.
Downgrading is not a real solution in a long term.
Thank you.

Re: ctrl and fn keyboard shortcuts don't work after update

changing the entries with dconf had no effect. Here what i found (my entries):

org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys:
custom-keybindings:
['/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/','/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom1/']
custom0:
               binding: <Ctrl><Alt>t
               command: gnome-terminal
               name: Terminal
custom1:
              binding: <Primary><Alt>e
              command: emacs
              name: Emacs

custom1 was created this afternoon

I have <Primary> in all of my shortcuts, but none of them work. What do you mean with "changing the entries with dconf had no effect"?
I tried deleting and recreating them, still nothing. Media keys don't work as well.

I also think this is not solved: downgrading a bunch of packages is just a workaround (if the OP actually did that).

+1 here too, Fn Shortcuts do not work after the latest upgrade of xorg-server. Please remove [Solved] from the title.

Re: ctrl and fn keyboard shortcuts don't work after update

It do not work there, with xfce 4.10 and latest xorg from extra.
It works indeed woth acpi_backlight=legacy to kernel grub line. I was using acpi_backlight=vendor (and i want to use it).
Any idea?

Same here (Thinkpad X220). Unfortunately, my /var/cache/pacman/pkg/XXX are gone already, so I can't downgrade locally. Is there any chance for a correcting update soon?

Use downgrade in AUR. Don't know about the update.

Re: ctrl and fn keyboard shortcuts don't work after update

Same here, resolved downgrading.

As posted before, it seems like is a bug with Gnome 3.4, which not appears with Gnome 3.6. Let's hope that Gnome 3.6 hits the stable repos soon.

Re: ctrl and fn keyboard shortcuts don't work after update

Downgrading fixed this issue for me on an MBP5,5 on extra's gnome 3.4.

[2012-10-14 12:02] upgraded xorg-server-common (1.13.0-2 -> 1.12.4-1)
[2012-10-14 12:02] upgraded xf86-input-evdev (2.7.3-2 -> 2.7.3-1)

Re: ctrl and fn keyboard shortcuts don't work after update

Same issue with my Toshiba Qosmio X505 laptop. I tried to downgrade xf86-input-evdev (2.7.3-2 -> 2.7.3-1) and xf86-input-synaptics (1.6.2-2 -> 1.6.2-1) and I lost both mouse and keyboard support, which is not a nice feeling. Luckily I was able to reinstall the newer packages and revert to the previous state. Maybe I should also downgrade xorg-server and xorg-server-common, but I don't want to mess up my system. I don't like this "solution." This is clearly not solved.

Also, is any of the bug reports being taken seriously?

That's because the older versions of the evdev and synaptics drivers were built for the older version of xorg; you must downgrade xorg-server and xorg-server-common if you downgrade those. This is only needed (if no one else finds a workaround) until Gnome 3.6 hits either [extra] or [testing].
