Dear all,
I own the aforementioned laptop which uses Intel HD 3000 and currently I cannot use an external monitor.
On the console the whole system hangs. This happens even during booting, in case I have connected the monitor before turning the laptop on. As soon as I disconnect the monitor, the system starts working again, e.g. whatever I had typed starts to appear.
On X server, the external monitor still does not work, but at least the system does not hang unless I use xrandr. In that case, screen hangs and everything goes back to normal again as soon as I disconnect the monitor.
Is anyone else experiencing similar problems?
I currently use EFI to boot (via grub-efi-x86_64 2.00-1), linux 3.6.2-1 and xf86-video-intel 2.20.9-2 along with intel-dri 9.0-1. Nothing fancy on the boot parameters, tried both UXA and SNA for X but with no luck (after all, I suspect it is a kernel issue). I have also tried the fallback option and to put the i915 module in the initrd, but neither of them changed the situation.
dmesg shows no input on plugging in and out the external monitor.
Xorg.0.log shows something similar to the following only after I plug out the external monitor:
