need help with systemd changeover!

i was trying to figure out a good title for this post.  not sure i hit on one.  that said:

today i spent several hours that i didn't really have trying to prep my system to change over to systemd.  what i did was not very hard to do, true enough, but i did not find the existing instructions to be very clear, and the end result was a dismal failure.  the boot took much longer than normal, and x failed to start.  also the static networking did not work.  my system is not a special case with lots of tweaks, and so i am guessing there are a lot of arch users out there who are either already upset about this, or are going to be upset about it soon.

does anyone know of a simpler set of instructions?  e.g.  "to change over your networking setup, 1) create these files; 2) put these bits of information into these files using this syntax; 3) restart system."  and then ditto for everything else a basic system will need to have done to it.

i do get the feeling that this is not all that hard, but it seems like the basics are obscured by the docs that are meant to explain it.  in other words, i did rtfm and i found it to be lousy not great.

i am more than happy to trust the developers that it's a good idea to move to systemd, but the wiki is not as great as some posters advertise, otherwise i would already have a working system using systemd.  if anyone else has run into this or just knows where a better basic set of instructions is, please let me know.

Did you read the Beginner's Guide? That has exactly the instructions you're asking for. Starting here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … ide#Locale

The other parts of the wiki, such as the systemd conversion parts, assume that you understand enough about your systems that you don't need that kind of hand holding anymore.

It would help if you gave us more information. Exactly which "existing instructions" did you follow (and please don't just say "the instructions in the wiki" -- point to the exact topic). Did you see any error messages during boot? Did you try to use systemd-analyze to see what problems you might be encountering during boot, or did you enable verbose output during boot? Did you check your Xorg log to see what might be causing X to fail? Exactly how did you attempt to enable static networking, and exactly what "did not work"?

Many people have already switched to systemd using the instructions in the wiki without major problems, or with minor problems that were easily solved. To state that the wiki instructions are "lousy" or "not as great as some posters advertise" simply because they did not work for you (and without telling us which "instructions" you are referring to) is not helpful, and starts to sound like a rant. Please tell us exactly what your problems are and we can start trying to help you fix them.
