halt default behaviour changed.

Hi.

I've just switched to systemd and initially I thought that halt doesn't power-off my laptop because of some issue with systemd.
It turned out that somwhere in the meantime default behavior of halt changed and it requires -p option now to power-off.

When did it change and is there any logical explanation why? Power off after halt seemed logical for years.

W.

New behavior is the right one - halt halts pc so you can read shutdown messages and power it off by power button or pulling the plug.

Ok, but it's possibly less than 1% of the shutdowns when I need to read anything. This laptop was even starting in silent mode in last few years. It just works.

Use poweroff instead of halt?

Yes, halt is halt, poweroff is poweroff. Use the right command in the right circumstance.
