... and I really mean it. Totem (yes, the GStreamer version) plays WMV, but the plugin doesn't. It doesn't give me an "unsupported format" message like it ought to; it just gives me a black space, and I can't even access the options menu by right-clicking on that space (I should be able to). Firefox registers the plugins presence according to about:plugins, but otherwise, it's as if the plugin doesn't exist. Am I missing something? Do I have to have the MDNS daemon running or something?

Okay, here's a screenshot of what *should* be a streaming movie:
All text and images have been selected to make it easier to see. That black rectangle is where the movie ought to be playing. Right-clicking on it did not bring up the Totem plugin's menu, and I got no message about Totem having trouble with the stream; it's as if the plugin isn't there.
Now, to show you the plugin exists:
[proteus@localhost ~]$ slocate libtotem_mozilla
/opt/mozilla-plugins/libtotem_mozilla.xpt
/opt/mozilla-plugins/libtotem_mozilla.so
/opt/mozilla-plugins/libtotem_mozilla.a
And here's about:plugins:
The info on the Totem plugin is circled.
As you can see, the plugin is there... It just might as well not be. :? Any help?

Switched over to totem-xine, now that that doesn't crash any more. Totem plugin still doesn't work, gives exactly the same crap.
(This plugin worked *perfectly* for Totem 1.1.4!)

Afaik, it is a totem bug. I found bug postings in ubuntu, fedore, suse newsgroups.

The plugin is a big mess. The only interest that went into this plugin, was that it plays OGG and Theora files flawlessly. Every other video format that works is just something extra.
These things happen when a commercial company starts implementing only their own needs and the community doesn't help to make it better.

Yeah, I see what you mean... But I tried streaming Ogg Theora videos - and it won't play them either.
