After today's update to kernel 3.6.4 my audio stoped working, totally, no sound at all. KDE mixer has grayed out the device.
It's a gigabyte motherboard (ga-p35-ds3) with Realtek ALC889A.
I didn't have any luck with alsa init, number of reboots, nothing ...
alsactl init
Found hardware: "HDA-Intel" "Realtek ALC889A" "HDA:10ec0885,1458a002,00100101" "0x1458" "0xa002"
Hardware is initialized using a generic method
aplay -l

System is up to date, no pulseaudo, no systemd (yet).
Linux ArchPC 3.6.4-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Oct 29 09:49:00 CET 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Please help ...
Dear Arch, seriously WTF ?? i had nothing to do with no sound, so i finally took my time and switched to systemd, rebooted and the sound is miraculously working without systemd, end of life allready?
Case closed.

This problem is not solved at all.
I'm in the same situation, since kernel 3.6.4 (and now using 3.6.6-1-ARCH), I have no sound at all. KDE mixer has grayed out the device.

The sound was working very well before updating the kernel to 3.6.4. I'm using ALSA, without PulseAudio.
There is no way I can use systemd at the moment because of a RAID problem (systemd refuses to boot my computer if I do not comment the raid entry in /etc/fstab...)
Any suggestion?
EDIT : I finally use to boot my system with systemd, and I have sound too. But compelling people to use systemd to have sound is not an appropriate solution.
