[SOLVED] Will windows 8 upgrade break dual-boot?

Hi,

I don't know if this is the right section but I suppose it is. I currently am running a dual-boot of Windows 7 and Arch Linux. I have 4 partitions: 1 boot partition, 1 HP_tools partition, 1 partition for the actual windows and 1 for arch.

If I upgrade my windows 7 to Windows 8, will it change anything? Or will just the windows partition be affected?

As far as I know, the secure boot rubbish will only affect new PCs that want to be "Windows 8 certified", and even then there's a possibility that OEMs will let you turn that "feature" off.

After "upgrading" your Windows installation, you'll probably need to reinstall your bootloader to the MBR, but that's nothing new.

I would probably wait until the first service pack is issued.

I just installed Windows 8 as an upgrade from Windows 7, keeping my settings, files and applications. Since my hardware is not Secure Boot-compatible, this was not an issue.

After the update, my PC booted as usual. No need even to reinstall my bootloader! I just reran grub-mkconfig to have 'Windows 8' instead of 'Windows 7' in my Grub menu.

Yes me too, didn't need to re-install
