I had to reinstall and used the latest media of course.
The process had changed a lot since last I did it so perhaps this is an artifact of that.
The issue is that I can't find any logs with anything reasonable in them.
I have read about syslogd but perhaps naively assumed that /var/log/messages.log should still retain its function?
What do I have to do to get my logs back? Not too many reason to lock at it but occasionally...
Thx!

I am filling in a little more info. Quite a few seemingly important files are missing. Manually restarting syslog gives:
/etc/rc.d/syslog-ng: line 3: /etc/rc.conf: No such file or directory
/etc/rc.d/syslog-ng: line 4: /etc/rc.d/functions: No such file or directory
/etc/rc.d/syslog-ng: line 3: /etc/rc.conf: No such file or directory
/etc/rc.d/syslog-ng: line 4: /etc/rc.d/functions: No such file or directory
/etc/rc.d/syslog-ng: line 37: stat_busy: command not found
/etc/rc.d/syslog-ng: line 42: stat_fail: command not found
/etc/rc.d/syslog-ng: line 3: /etc/rc.conf: No such file or directory
/etc/rc.d/syslog-ng: line 4: /etc/rc.d/functions: No such file or directory
/etc/rc.d/syslog-ng: line 26: stat_busy: command not found
/etc/rc.d/syslog-ng: line 29: add_daemon: command not found
/etc/rc.d/syslog-ng: line 30: stat_done: command not foundThis cant be good... They are really missing its not just permissions.
The thing is that the system seems to be running really nice despite these missing.
Can I just mount an install image and copy them or is there some better way to restore/create them?

Read the systemd wiki page linked above - all of it, not just the Journal section. Also all recent Arch News articles.
