Hi all, I am having the same problem as here
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=146388
though I am using GRUB2. (I.e. I forgot to install sysvcompat.) However, when I hit `e' on boot, nothing happens (excet the coutdown to automatic boot disappears), so I can't edit the kernel options. If I press `Enter' after `e' then it proceeds with normal boot, which is unsuccessful. Can antone help? (At this stage, I have no live media/rescue CD).
Cheers!

Are you using a non-qwerty keyboard? When I started using Grub2, I found that my dvorak keyboard was treated as qwerty, so I had to press "." to edit.
If you don't have a live environment, do you have another OS installed that you can mount your /boot partition from?

Haha, I am very impressed that you figured that out! Yes, I am using dvorak, and I should have known that was the solution!

Incidentally, you can create a custom keymap for grub2, but the process is convoluted and the resultant keymap doesn't work as well as it should (e.g. holding down the right arrow key to move the cursor in edit mode generates gibberish after a couple of seconds). Still, you may find it useful for minor edits to the kernel parameters/etc. at boot
