Re: how to switch keyboard layout in gnome 3.6 for shift+alt

If you look at this website: http://developer.gnome.org/hig-book/3.4 … rd.html.en   you will find that this shortcut doesn't make too much sense and is disabled by default, because alt+shift+ some-other-key is enabled by default for other shortcuts. If you would want to change this, you have to dig deeper into gnome.
although i don't agree with gnome developers for the most part i can follow them here. if you offer some alt+shift+anykey, you shouldn't allow alt+shift as it pretty sure would break the user experience for the other shortcuts.
why don't you just use something like ctrl+spacebar like most part of the non-microsoftish world?

In Opera web browser this combination triggers a jump to Opera portal, so no good. Maybe some other applications have something assigned to this shortcut, too.

Ctrl-Shift used to do the job for me, but no more.

Thanks, mate, this helps a lot.

As for retards part... I think they are not, they just want to do too much in too little time -- bound to make some errors along the way. It will get ironed out gradually. But then, THEN there will be something new in the pipeline, some new wiz-bang idea, and back to frustration for the end users (:sob:)

There are other examples of 3.6 retardness. ie When the screen locks/goes blank in 3.4 you pressed ANY key and you ended up in the unlock form you typed your password etc etc. In 3.6 after you press a button you end up on a screen with the time and you either have to drag with your mouse or press ENDER. Its a fuckin waste of motions to do something really simple like unlock the damn screen. My brain hurts every time i discover new ways of stupid in their DE.

Luckily E17 is about to be released and i am leaving gnome for good once it hits the repos.

Could You please help to set CapsLock to be layout switcher? It's not a valid key combination for this new frontend...

Re: how to switch keyboard layout in gnome 3.6 for shift+alt

There are a lot of options under Gnome 3.6's Keyboard Layout tool.

1. Load Keyboard Layout  (Super, then type 'Keyboard Layout' ENTER). (Super + Type 'Keyboard Layout' ENTER).
2. Click on the Layouts tab.
3. Click the Options button (lower right)
4. Open the "Key(s) to change layout" tree.

Some useful combinations to switch layouts:
   Ctrl+Shift (like Windows XP/2000)
   Caps+Lock
Both Shift keys together (this is the one I use)
