I'm using nomodeset on syslinux kernel drive. Mplayer works at all, but vlc doesn't
vlc -V glx
VLC media player 2.0.4 Twoflower (revision 2.0.3-289-g6e6100a)
[0xa87108] main libvlc: using standard interface to vlc. use CVLC to don't use interface
segmentation fault
(translated)
even vlc -V glx or vlc -V opengl I get the same
and, these error messages when I use glxinfo
glxinfo | grep rendering
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 155 (ATIFGLEXTENSION)
Minor opcode of failed request: 66 ()
Serial number of failed request: 13
Current serial number in output stream: 13
lib32-catalyst-utils I couldn't install cause signature issues on Vi0l0's pgp key
lib32-catalyst-utils: signature from "Vi0L0 <vi0l093@gmail.com>" is unknown trust
Does it affects vlc?
And, another thing. I haven't put fglrx on rc.conf, cause I haven't find it.

Hi!
I can tell you my experience with VLC when I installed Arch one week ago.It wouldn't start and Clementine wouldn't play radio,it was saying that plugins are missing. So I installed gstreamer plugins and now it works perfectly.I use KDE so I had no problem with Amarok and Kaffeine but with those two mentioned before I did. That is my experience, hope it will help you.
I also use "nomodeset" but that has nothing to do with your problem with VLC.

you've installed plugins, and VLC start working?
I don't, never, asks for plugins on vlc, this why I just use it on linux.

yeah... solved
Reinstall, without uninstalling, just reinstall vlc, open it, close it.... and were created on ./config a directory called vlc (haven't before)
now it is running
