Installation on Macbook 5,3 - ends up with no keyboard

Hello everyone
I have a problem I just can't figure out. After the installation of the base system (following the installation guides), I end up with login prompt with no keyboard.

Arch Linux 3.6.6-1-ARCH (tty1)

<hostname> login:

After searching the arch forum and elsewhere, I have tried to add these as boot arguments :

NEEDUSB=auto
radeon.modeset=0
intel.modeset=0
noapic
acpi=off

I have tried to add all kinds of modules in /etc/modules-load.d/*.conf

To no avail. I dont know how to activate the built-in keyboard of my macbook pro.

Is there anyone that, please can lend me a hand or point out where to find info about the setup/configuration of a macbook pro 7.1.

Best regards!!!

UPDATE: Sorry guys, made a mistake when identifying the laptop, it's a MacBook Pro 5,3 not a 7,1 version. Changed subject.

Re: Installation on Macbook 5,3 - ends up with no keyboard

I found this post: Can't type in TTY (macbook pro 7,1)

It resembles perfectly my situation. However, I do have KEYMAP=us in rc.conf.

Re: Installation on Macbook 5,3 - ends up with no keyboard

I don't have a macbook, so I don't know if thats the only problem, but, the rc.conf file is not longer used.
If you check the wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Rc.conf , you'll see that line now goes on /etc/vconsole.conf.

Make sure to follow the recent installation guide. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Of … tall_Guide (and the articles it points to)

"open source is about choice"
No.
Open source is about opening the source code complying with this conditions, period. The ability to choose among several packages is just a nice side effect.

Are you using the most recent install media?  There was a kernel bug in the past which messed with apple keyboards and other usb  keyboards (I was affected by it in the past).

Re: Installation on Macbook 5,3 - ends up with no keyboard

Thanks for your answers.

@chris_l : I started my installation without the /etc/rc.conf. But when I added stuff in section HOOKS in the /etc/mkinitcpio.conf, I got errors telling me I didn't have any rc.conf... Thats why I added it. I will remove and try again.

@akspecs: Yes, I use the latest media dated 2012.11.01. I'm suspecting that the MODULES in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf contains the wrong modules. I have not found a good reference for what modules are needed for an Apple MacBook Pro 5,3.

Re: Installation on Macbook 5,3 - ends up with no keyboard

I dont want to give up... I have tried so many combinations. This is what I have learned so far:

acpi=off is a MUST, otherwise there is a hardware error saying something about the CPU  5 bank 5 is broken.

No matter what I add ti the mkinitcpio.conf regarding MODULES make no difference.

All this and I still have no working keyboard after bootup. The cursor just blinks and I cannot continue with the installation of Arch Linux.

I'm am stuck.
