Suspend suddenly stopped working on ASUS K53E

Hello,

I'm booting Arch Linux 64 bit (Official repo kernel) on my ASUS K53E running KDE from the official repo. For awhile everything has been working smoothly. However, today, I discover that every time I try to put my laptop to sleep, the screen goes black (Backlight still on), and the system just hangs, the CPU fan and backlight are still going, but everything is completely unresponsive, forcing me to do a hard reboot.

Now, I'm a bit confused on how to diagnose this issue because /var/log/pm-suspend.log doesn't exist. I can't find it anywhere on my system. So this is about as much information I can give at the moment.

Can somebody point me to where the relevant logs would be stored so I can give more information to help solve this? Thanks.

Re: Suspend suddenly stopped working on ASUS K53E

I noticed the thread on the problems with the 3.6 kernel (Specifically power regressions), and am wondering if my suspend problem could be related to the problems of 3.6

If so, how would I downgrade my kernel through the repos?

Re: Suspend suddenly stopped working on ASUS K53E

Read the article on downgrading. If you haven't cleared pacman's cache your old kernel packages should be in /var/cache/pacman/pkg. Otherwise, there's the A.R.M. As for logs, if you're using systemd try the "journalctl" command as root. Its output tends to be huge, so take note of the time you suspended the computer.

If you're desperate, you could also try the linux-mainline kernel (3.7). Compilation takes a few hours, but it was worth it for me.

Re: Suspend suddenly stopped working on ASUS K53E

I've recently installed Arch, so I do not have any previous kernel. Here is a pastebin of the relevant parts of journalctl.

I may try Linux mainline, I'm now getting random lockups with 3.6 while simply browsing the web, and this is mostly unusable for a mobile laptop environment.

I'll tentatively say that I've solved this by installing the linux-lts kernel from the repos.
