E17 displays / instead of ~/.desktop on desktop. [solved]

Hello,
so my wife was messing on the computer and somehow changed e17's default of showing mounted drives, home, and root on the desktop. to the / directory itself displaying ALL the folders on the desktop. How do I change this back?

Have you tried Settings-> Files -> File manager -> Behaviour -> Allow Navigation on Desktop

Perhaps there's something else as well as this wouldn't work for me, but perhaps it needs a restart, possible not.

that is closer, but now it just shows the folders inside the users home directory. I tried to get into the desktop folder by typing desktop/{drive} but ut will not go into it. I created a folder inside desktop, but that would not allow me to open the desktop folder either.

I think I found it... on my bodhi linux partition at least, theres a module called efm(start) under

Settings -> Etentions -> Files

Turning that on/off added/removed the functionallitity I think your looking for.

Re: E17 displays / instead of ~/.desktop on desktop. [solved]

that did not work I tried to unload and load the module efm(starter) it did not reset the settings.  When I unload it the folders on the desktop disappear and come back exactly how it is right now. I want the folder ~/.desktop to be displayed on the desktop.

You could try and backup your ~/.e directory or delete it, start from scratch and set it all up over again since you don't really know what your wife did.

I too am experiencing this.
However, no one has been messing with my desktop...
Today, when I started my netbook it was just like this...
But I can't even get it to display my ~/ ...
All I can see is my / ... much less my desktop.

Re: E17 displays / instead of ~/.desktop on desktop. [solved]

Maybe someone with a *working* config can upload their ~/.e/.e/fileman/custom.cfg ? See if that works. That is the price to pay for binary config files.
Thanks in advance.

I have a working confir running only under Bodhi Linux, I try enableing efm(start) on my arch (had some other unrelated problems and using a backup now) and it dosn't work on arch.

Heres the custom.cfg file from my Bodhi linux install, if its any help ?

Unfortunately Dude-man's custom.cfg did not solve the problem. It must lie somewhere else...
Thank you anyway for your assistance.

Re: E17 displays / instead of ~/.desktop on desktop. [solved]

ok just so we are clear on how I came to this problem, when no windows are open you can type on the keyboard that opens an invisible search box in the middle of the desktop and it will go to the directory you type. What is the logical reverse engineering of that? It would seem that you should be able to open /home/user/desktop but that is not working.

Holy koala dung!
That did the trick for me!
In order to get to the desktop Don't forget to add a trailing /

/home/$USER/Desktop/
