[SOLVED] Touchpad not working

Hi everyone. That's my first post, i'm new on Arch, and i need some help from advanced users.
It's the second time i installed Arch on a laptop, the first one it was not really well configured.

Now i learn a bit more so i've my entire system working, except my touchpad.
I'm gonna try to do it in the right order (and sorry if my sentences are not good enough, i'm french, but i'm gonna try to do my best!)

So my Touchpad is a Synaptic one, my

 xinput list

give me that result :

Virtual core pointer id=2	[master pointer (3)]
Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4	[slave pointer (2)]
Logitech Optical USB Mouse id=10	[slave pointer (2)]
    ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad id=13	[slave pointer (2)]
Virtual core keyboard id=3	[master keyboard (2)]
Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5	[slave keyboard (3)]
Power Button id=6	[slave keyboard (3)]
Video Bus id=7	[slave keyboard (3)]
Power Button id=8	[slave keyboard (3)]
Sleep Button id=9	[slave keyboard (3)]
HD WebCam id=11	[slave keyboard (3)]
AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=12	[slave keyboard (3)]
Acer WMI hotkeys id=14	[slave keyboard (3)]

So it seems my touchpad is ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad. Up there i think i'm right?

So i seen some other topics, there was people saying that could be a double declaration in my log files (i'm using xorg server X11 and xfce4)

My /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf is like this :

Section "InputClass"
        Identifier "touchpad catchall"
        Driver "synaptics"
        MatchIsTouchpad "on"
        MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
	Option "TapButton1" "1"
        Option "TapButton2" "2"
        Option "TapButton3" "3"
        Option "VertEdgeScroll" "on"
        Option "VertTwoFingerScroll" "on"
EndSection

I already add the line that should avoir double declaration during the log

MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"

This is my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf file :

Section "InputClass"
        Identifier "evdev pointer catchall"
        MatchIsPointer "on"
        MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
        Driver "evdev"
EndSection

Section "InputClass"
        Identifier "evdev keyboard catchall"
        MatchIsKeyboard "on"
        MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
        Driver "evdev"
EndSection

and after all, my /var/log/Xorg.0.log file.

Re: [SOLVED] Touchpad not working

I'm having issues with my touchpad too.

I don't know why, but if I move the cursor while booting, right after gpm started up to the gdm display, my touchpad works.

It's strange and idiotic, but is the only way I can activate the touchpad.

Re: [SOLVED] Touchpad not working

What do you mean by moving the cursor? and gpm? (maybe it's not the same name in french...)

Re: [SOLVED] Touchpad not working

I have to move my finger over the touchpad in order to make it work.

Try to do that while booting.

Re: [SOLVED] Touchpad not working

My suggestion would be to try a different kernel like linux-lts to see if it's a kernel problem.  From what I've seen, when touchpads suddenly stop working it's due to a new kernel that doesn't work well with certain touchpads.  If you do a forum search for elantech touchpad there is an old article and it seems to suggest kernel problems awhile ago so perhaps it has happened again.  Your configs seem fine to me but your touchpad is being seen twice in your Xorg.log.

Re: [SOLVED] Touchpad not working

I know my config seems right, the line

MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"

should reslove the double declaration problem in the log.

I'm on kernel 3.6.6-1-ARCH if it could help you?

Re: [SOLVED] Touchpad not working

Maybe your config it's all ok, but your touchpad is deactivated.

See this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=148411

That dude did have to boot into a fedora live cd, then activate the touchpad using the fn keys, and then his touchpad was working.

There's really no need to bump an old thread like that.
