Kernel modification after graphics/sound driver install?

Hi probably stupid question, but.:

Do I have to do something with my kernel, when I install e.p. graphics driver or sound driver, to get them work properly?

E.P. I have downloaded ati-drivers with kernel26archck, modifyied boot/grub/menu.lst to use that kernel, but when i start xfce, it returns me, that incompatible kernel detected and that openGL won't work.

Where is the problem?

When do I need to do something with my kernel and HOW? :c)

THX

Re: Kernel modification after graphics/sound driver install?

i'm not familiar with the ati drivers, but for nvidia, you have to install the driver with pacman after you have booted a new kernel. simply 'pacman -S ati-drivers' now. you'll have to reinstall the driver whenever you install a new kernel, but like i said, after you boot it.
