You are not logged in.
I have a Inspirion 15r laptop, with intel integrated graphics card.
It works fine, but, sometimes, generally when I plug/unplug laptop from power, than, the powerdevil change brightness... if I immediatelly change it again, it freeze.
Also, sometimes when logging-in and change the brightness, freeze.
And, at last, some random times when I change brightness, it freeze.
And it freeze the entire system, not only KDE.
I don't know which log I look for this.
Anyway:
lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 18)
cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
Option "TearFree" "true"
Option "SwapbuffersWait" "false"
EndSection
If you need more info, let me know.
Thanks in advance.

check xorg.1.log after the reboot to see uf there was an x error
try chnaging the brigness with command line utilities to see if it is kde related
connect through ssh from a remote computer to see if actually the whole system freezes
try using propietary drivers if using open source ones or viceversa in case of nvidia or ati
check kernel logs from previous boots
finally, if nothing seems to help, check if ubuntu suffers from the same issue

I do, didn't see anything special.. (maybe it be my mistake)
> try chnaging the brigness with command line utilities to see if it is kde related
OK, will try it
> connect through ssh from a remote computer to see if actually the whole system freezes
tried, the system is really completly stoped
> try using propietary drivers if using open source ones or viceversa in case of nvidia or ati
intel driver, open source should be good;
> check kernel logs from previous boots
anything special too..
> finally, if nothing seems to help, check if ubuntu suffers from the same issue

Hi, sorry for resurrecting the post, but since it was unresolved, and I am the weird same issue, and I couldn't find any answer...
My notebook also is a Dell Inspiron 15r, and power devil randomly freezes the whole system, can't login via ssh after it crashes...
It will crash during any change to the state of power devil, during boot after login to kdm, or any change to screen brightness.
I disabled power devil as a work around, but I really would like a fix to the problem...
EDIT:
I use KDE with Slackware without a problem, just in Arch I am having this issue.
