I feel like Xmonad is the window manager I'll use when I finally grow up and learn to program for real, but for now, I'm still enjoying a torid love affair with herbstluftwm and bash (just figured out that bash has builtin string manipulation, crap-tastic though it may be).
left pic: left to right, top row: script to add dynamic tiling functions to herbstluftwm (sans comments and blank lines), part of ~/.aliases (sourced by .bashrc and .zshrc), alsi+colordump+systemd-analyze; bottom row: htop, yaourt -Syua, my book on biblical Hebrew (asciidoc+vim)
right pic: a script to show cmatrix in all colors.

Why do you find it crap-tastic?

It's alright, I guess, and it's obviously much faster than an external tool, but it's nothing compared to string manipulation in python and other programming languages or the insane things you can accomplish with strings in bash via sed, awk, cut, tr, etc.
but it does make slow scripts faster, which I like

awk is the one I haven't started to learn yet. I haven't really learned sed yet either, but I recently read a book about vi, so I'm basically just using it to do stuff that ex can do (which is quite a lot, of course). I have a book about sed and awk waiting for me, but I don't have time for it yet.

I would like to have a look at your configurationn files. Specifically, do you put stalonetray on top of xmobar?

ya... I kinda do. For now I don't have a fix to variate the output on xmobar to automatically adapt to stalonetray's size.

for xmobar: https://github.com/gnomeye/dotfiles_sca … /.xmobarrc

Edited the screenfetch script so it's much simpler, but can still handle multiple DE's/WM's.
Also changed wallpaper and background color. Other than that, not much has changed.
